Maria Bries concentrates her practice on project development, real estate and title matters, financing transactions, joint ventures, and acquisitions and sales relating to renewable energy projects.
Previously, Maria served as an attorney in the Global Projects group at Mayer Brown LLP (now known as the Projects & Infrastructure Group) in New York and Chicago for nine years, before taking time off from her legal practice to home educate her two children. While at Mayer Brown, she represented developers, investors, and lenders in various infrastructure transactions pertaining to project development and finance in the energy sector ranging from renewable to conventional power, notably working to establish Mayer Brown's Renewable Energy practice.
An active member in her community, Maria provides pro bono services in the areas of landlord/tenant law and estate planning to clients of Prairie State Legal Services, a legal aid organization providing free legal services to low income individuals in northern Illinois ensuring equal access to justice and fair treatment under the law. Maria also serves on the board of directors of the non-profit organization, Mindfulness in Law Society, and she is Co-Chair of the Illinois Chapter. Maria is a mentor and certified mindfulness and yoga teacher dedicated to enhancing the well-being of law students, lawyers, and legal professionals.
Maria graduated from the University of Iowa, Tippie College of Business, summa cum laude, with a BBA in Accounting, completed an Honors Thesis in Antitrust Law, became a Certified Public Accountant, then earned her Juris Doctorate from New York University School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in Illinois.
